Sometimes regulations are evil. On April 30, 2008, NYC passed a law requiring fast food restaurants to very visibly post calorie counts on their menus. Unfortunately for me, that meant finding out that my favorite doughnut at Dunkin Donuts, the Boston Kreme, is the most caloric of them all. Oh how I hate you Mayor [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: At the MIT Bookstore
Okay, so photos of the day. While I was at UIE’s UI13 conference in October, I took a gander through the MIT bookstore. When I stumbled upon these two geeky tees, I couldn’t help but snap a pic while no one was looking. I went to Carnegie Mellon a.k.a. Nerds ‘R’ Us and even we [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Please don’t touch, lick, stroke or mount the exhibits
It’s Saturday, so let’s get a little risqué. Over Thanksgiving, the lovely Sharin and I took our 18-year-old friend Jason to the Museum of Sex (what else does one do with an 18-year-old boy?). I snapped a pic of this sign hung prominently near the entrance and posted it to Flickr. Somehow someone found it, [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Don’t Lose Your Shirt
Okay, so times are tough. Maybe you should think about saving your cash. Instead of going out tonight, stay at home and play with your money without spending a dime. Over brunch with Orian one day, I made a ring from a dollar bill similar to this one. I learned how to do it back [Keep Reading…]
Twitter finally integrates Twitter Search a.k.a. Summize
In July I mentioned that Twitter bought Summize, a search engine that indexes tweets, and redirected the site to http://search.twitter.com. Now finally, almost 8 months later, Twitter Search is fully integrated into the Twitter top nav. A search box is now globally accessible and the top 10 trending topics are displayed in a dropdown. In [Keep Reading…]
My high school computer science homework
As some of you may know, I was computer scientist before I was a user experience designer. Because I was always on the computer, I was persuaded by an 8th grade teacher to enroll in the one high school computer science class when I entered the 9th grade, and I loved it so much that [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Elevator madness
Believe it or not, I don’t really have anything negative to say about this elevator panel, just that it’s rather overwhelming the first time you see it. But I’ve seen it many times, so it no longer phases me. There are two panels because the elevator has two doors, one on each side — there [Keep Reading…]
Answering Your Questions
I check my blog analytics pretty regularly. I like to know how many people are visiting, coming from where, for how long, reading what, etc. My keyword activity, the search terms that lead people to my blog, is particularly interesting and hilarious. I realize that I have a sultry blog title, and as a result [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Street Lihgting
Look closely. Do you see it? I’ve been passing this lamppost for more than 5 years, and happened to notice this ridiculousness a long time ago. Last week when I passed by it again, I finally decided to snap a pic. I don’t know enough about how these street lights get installed or how the [Keep Reading…]
Why the new Skittles website is ridiculous but I don’t actually care
Skittles is one of my favorite candies. I love opening up a fresh pack, finding one of each color and squishing them together to make a rainbow. It just makes me happy. I’ve been eating Skittles my whole life and I’ve been on a computer my whole life, and yet never in a million years [Keep Reading…]
