If you follow me on Twitter or read this blog enough, you probably already know that I’m completely in love with Skitch. It’s by far the most common tool that I use for my everyday work — taking screenshots, making annotations, resizing images, etc. Skitch beta 8 was just released a couple days ago with [Keep Reading…]
More than 600 people attend boxee NYC meetup
Last night I had the absolute pleasure of participating in a tremendously successful boxee NYC meetup at Webster Hall. According to venue staff, more than 600 people were in attendance. It’s a huge space and the entire downstairs was packed, with many people also up in the balcony. I was thrilled to see such a [Keep Reading…]
Twitter.com finally removes their awful pagination
Twitter.com’s Newer and Older buttons at the bottom of the tweet stream are NO MORE! Just this morning when I refreshed the page, I noticed that they’ve been replaced by the lovely more button: When you press more, another 20 tweets appear right there on the page. Much easier to use — scrolling is not [Keep Reading…]
I’m here at SXSW and I want to meet you!
I’m here in Austin hanging out at SXSW until Wednesday, then going straight to Memphis for the IA Summit. Tomorrow, Saturday, March 14, at 3:30pm, I’ll be on a panel with Jeffrey Zeldman, Roger Black and Kristina Halvorson called “From Freelance to Agency: Start Small, Stay Small.” I told you all about it in December. [Keep Reading…]
I’m Speaking at Pittsburgh Web Design Day
When I went to Pittsburgh in October for Carnegie Mellon Homecoming to see the reunion of my friend Joanna‘s band, I had the pleasure of finally meeting my Twitter pal G. Jason Head. Jason is a front-end web developer and runs Refresh Pittsburgh. He’s also putting together the first-ever Pittsburgh Web Design Day — “a [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Nine wrong ways to swipe
I don’t drink whiskey, but this ad almost made me want to. Jameson ran an ad campaign last year exclusively for NYC subways. This hyper-localized approach isn’t very common for a national (hell, international) brand, and it really impressed me. Why? Because they demonstrated “insider knowledge.” MAYBE IT’S BECAUSE THERE ARENINE WRONG WAYS TO SWIPE [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Please don’t touch, lick, stroke or mount the exhibits
It’s Saturday, so let’s get a little risqué. Over Thanksgiving, the lovely Sharin and I took our 18-year-old friend Jason to the Museum of Sex (what else does one do with an 18-year-old boy?). I snapped a pic of this sign hung prominently near the entrance and posted it to Flickr. Somehow someone found it, [Keep Reading…]
My high school computer science homework
As some of you may know, I was computer scientist before I was a user experience designer. Because I was always on the computer, I was persuaded by an 8th grade teacher to enroll in the one high school computer science class when I entered the 9th grade, and I loved it so much that [Keep Reading…]
Why the new Skittles website is ridiculous but I don’t actually care
Skittles is one of my favorite candies. I love opening up a fresh pack, finding one of each color and squishing them together to make a rainbow. It just makes me happy. I’ve been eating Skittles my whole life and I’ve been on a computer my whole life, and yet never in a million years [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: You Can’t Un-Shit a First Impression
I was sitting in a café on University Place and noticed this hilarious sign. YOU CAN’T UN-SHIT A FIRST IMPRESSION Even if you don’t have a fancy suit, we’ll make you look good on paper. The Resumé Hero Resumés and cover letters for real people who want super jobs. I found it ironic that the [Keep Reading…]
