On Wednesday I posted an extensive behind-the-scenes look at the user experience design process I used when Boxee hired me to help them get from alpha to beta: The UX Design Process for the Boxee Beta. To my utter joy, ReadWriteWeb featured my work in their ReadWriteStart channel, focused on startups: An Inside Look Into [Keep Reading…]
The UX Design Process for the Boxee Beta
More than a year ago I very proudly announced that Boxee, the much-loved social media center software company, had hired me as the user experience designer for their beta. In the five months that I worked with them, I conducted user interviews and usability testing to identify people’s needs, behaviors and frustrations, and redesigned the [Keep Reading…]
A Q&A with the Speakers of UX London
I’m psyched to be hosting a workshop at UX London titled Creating a Culture of UX. To help promote the event, the fine folks at UX Booth posed a few questions to the UX London speakers. A Q&A with the speakers from UX London was published today. UX Booth will be updating the post as [Keep Reading…]

Peace & Love Café is one of my favorite local spots. They’ve got free wi-fi, amazing sandwiches, and lots of comfy seating. The perfect alternative to a Starbucks. And how can that name not make you feel great? I’ve been going to Peace & Love for several years, and always noticed that their inner door [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Do Not Disturb
I travel a lot and I’ve seen (and used) my fair share of Do Not Disturb signs. Most hang from the doorknob, and some are inserted into the card key slot. But who hasn’t experienced their shortcomings? Either they fall to the floor every time you open the door, or you aren’t given one at [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Departures and Arrivals
Tuesday morning I was sitting in the Amtrak waiting area at New York’s Penn Station when I glanced to my right to see if my track number had been announced. There were two screens, one stacked on top of the other, with two metal plaques that indicated Departures on the top and Arrivals on the [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: Dollars and Cents
On June 28, 2009, the New York City MTA increased the rates for subway and bus rides. Apparently the ticket agent who dutifully wrote this sign is unaware of the one-currency-symbol-per-value rule. Is the new fare 2.25 dollars or 2.25 cents? A smart, frugal person might have recourse to argue the latter.
NY Tech Meetup: The European Edition
Last night, Dawn Barber and Meetup.com CEO and co-founder Scott Heiferman hosted a special edition of NY Tech Meetup at Meetup HQ. NY Tech Meetup: European Edition gave 11 startups from all over Europe the chance to wow us tough New Yorkers with 3-minute demos of their webapps. The companies are all 2009 winners of [Keep Reading…]
Photo of the day: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY
It’s so comforting to know that in times of imminent danger, our stress call will require seven careful steps. I saw this sign posted on the Governors Island Ferry when heading back to Manhattan after a nice birthday picnic in the park. You may recall that New York City has had some ferry trouble in [Keep Reading…]

Who doesn’t love a good pun? I’m more of a double entendre girl myself, but even a har har pun can get a chuckle out of me sometimes. I found this tip jar at a Haagen Dazs in Santa Fe Plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Now for those of you who are a bit [Keep Reading…]
