What was the moment you realized you needed support?
As a young, first time COO, I knew I would need coaching outside of the company. Having a specified program with individualized sessions was more powerful than just mentorship and networking.
How did you decide Whitney’s coaching could be that support?
I was drawn to Whitney’s full approach to coaching. She paired together active sessions with books, articles, exercises and assessments to paint a broader picture of where I was and where I wanted to go. It was clear that she would play an active role in helping me shape my broader career, not just specific to my current role. She gave me practical exercises and techniques to use in the workplace. I also wanted to work with someone who understood the dynamics of gender in the boardroom.
What was the moment you noticed your habits were changing?
Having a greater awareness and ability to pay attention to dynamics. Particularly in getting better at recognizing my own physical response to situations at work. Do I need a break? Should I speak up more here?
How has coaching changed your circumstances or perspective?
Whitney has become a partner in my career. Working with her helped me frame who I want to be as an executive and I reference that roadmap and principles we created often when assessing career decisions.
