On January 1st, the 2009 lineup for An Event Apart: The Design Conference For People Who Make Websites was made public. AEA is run by Jeffrey Zeldman and Eric Meyer, the creators of A List Apart and pioneers in the web standards movement.
AEA is a two-day one-track conference in four cities throughout the year. As the website states, “If you care about code as well as content, usability as well as design, An Event Apart is the conference you’ve been waiting for.” Read more about it.
Though I’ve never previously attended AEA, I’ve heard about it for years as a longtime reader of A List Apart — I think it was the first professional publication I started reading when I graduated college. I was blown away when Jeffrey, whom I work with at Happy Cog, asked if I would be interested in being a speaker this year. I eagerly said yes with no hesitation, lest he change his mind!
While I don’t know the exact topic of my presentation, you can rest assured it’ll somehow be about user experience ;) How incredible would it be if I decided to randomly speak about my PEZ dispenser collection or some such thing?! It’s likely that I’ll be talking about common misconceptions in UX, a topic I’ve been thinking about a lot lately — an article is in the works, so stay tuned.
If you poke around on the conference website, you’ll see that I’m slated for the Boston and Chicago events. Check out my lovely speaker page. How cool!
I’m just as excited about attending the conference as I am about speaking at it (actually scared shitless about that). Other speakers include: Derek Featherstone, Jeremy Keith, Jason Santa Maria, Josh Porter, Dan Brown, Dan Rubin, Kristina Halvorson, Dan Mall, Aaron Gustafson and more incredible people I can’t believe I’m in the company of. Whatever I end up speaking about, I hope it somehow sparks an important thought in people’s minds and encourages them to do great work, no matter what it is they do.
I really hope to see many of you there. As you register, be sure to let me know if you’ll be at the Boston or Chicago events so we can be sure to meet up.
Huge thanks to the An Event Apart team. I’m so honored to be involved.
