You may have heard of Medium, the latest venture by Ev Williams, creator of Twitter and Blogger. If tweets are short-form and blog posts are long-form, Medium is somewhere in the middle (hence the name).
When I was first invited to test the service, it just seemed to be a place where the Internet elite could show off their writing skills. Sure, I was impressed with who was using it, but just like the first few times I tried Twitter, I didn’t really get it.
Earlier today I wanted to publish a personal essay I’d just finished writing, and couldn’t figure out where to do it. I didn’t want to put it here on Pleasure & Pain because it isn’t about humanity in business — it’s just about, well, me. I considered starting a new blog for personal essays that I intend to be writing with much greater frequency. I thought, Tumblr? WordPress? No. I wanted it to have an automatic audience because I crave feedback. So naturally I took to Twitter to ask for advice, and a few people reminded me about Medium.
This is just a note to let you know that I’ll be trying it out and from time to time may cross-publish things here. I don’t know what it will become — Medium or my writing, for that matter — but as always, I hope you’ll be along for the ride.
